Purpose of role

As part of the central finance team, to assist with enhancing financial visibility and transparency through Business Intelligence and Management Information. This will involve operation of the firms existing BI software to interrogate and report on financial data together with manipulation and modelling of data within Excel to produce various types of management information ranging from accounts to budgets and forecasting models.

Strong technical ability in Excel and SQL data bases together with a broad understanding of accounting and finance will be expected of this role.

 

Key Responsibilities

  1. To work closely with the financial controller to develop and extract KPIs and reports and regularly deliver these in a timely and accurate way.

  2. To be the “go to” person within the finance team for all Excel and data questions.

  3. To interact with senior members of the finance team and via strong mathematical, analytical and reasoning skills to take concepts/ideas and create business models.

  4. To provide regular and insightful analysis as requested to facilitate decision making by the senior management team.

  5. To provide modelling support to the budget and forecasting process

  6. To innovate the process of producing management information by working with the business accounting team and providing technical data related assistance.

  7. To assist all teams in the finance department to create and communicate financial information from data already held within the practice management system.

  8. To ensure that all reporting produced is complete and accurate through detailed and diligent review.

  9. To work on bigger, firm wide, data projects under the direction of the Data and Reporting Analyst as necessary.

Education/Qualifications

GCSE  in English and Maths (min grade B).

Relevant accounting or business qualification desirable.

Experience/Knowledge

Experience of database table structures. 

Experience of SQL, SSRS, and VBA essential. Qlikview desirable.  

Experience gained in a finance function, preferably in a professional services business but not essential.

Skills / Abilities

Excellent IT skills; advanced user of MS access, MS excel and SQL software.

Numerate.

Excellent analytical skills, able to turn problems into actions.

Can prioritise well, can manage own workload autonomously meeting deadlines.

Strong modelling skills; turning concepts into fully functioning and well designed models.

Excellent communication skills; able to interface with user groups to understand their reporting requirements and articulate that back to them via the reporting in an effective way.
