Purpose of role

This is an important and challenging new role that will work within a dynamic, hard-working and expanding team, employed to provide a complete costs service to its clients.

 

Key Responsibilities

Responsibility

Detail

To provide legal services to clients

Deliver an effective and commercially focused complete costs service to its clients including; preparing bills, statements, schedules, estimates and risk management.

Participate in effective negotiation processes, constructive commercial and cost effective advice, responsible for points of dispute and replies. To provide sound and accurate advice to clients.

Effective and accurate application of Civil Procedure Rules and SRA/CLSB Code of Conduct.

Business Development

To play a supporting role to more senior team members in the marketing initiatives and business development projects, to promote the team, to maintain and develop existing client relationships and to assist with attracting/targeting new clients and referrals nationwide.

Wider responsibilities

To support and contribute the implementation of the Team’s Business Plan and to achieve the goals and objectives.

Financials

To achieve billing and chargeable hours targets, to control disbursements and debt.

Regulatory

To comply with:-

  • All internal regulations, to include the procedures set out in the Firm’s Office Manual.
  • All professional obligations.
  • The requirements set by The Law Society, Solicitors Regulation Authority and Association of Costs Lawyers.

Training

To fulfil the requirements of the Training Regulations set by any professional body to which you may belong, in order to improve the personal development of the Fee Earner and to provide a quality legal service.

  • GCSE Maths and English (min grade C)
  • Legal qualification advantageous but not essential  
  • Microsoft office literate
  • A keen commitment to commencing formal training by way of the Association of Costs Lawyers and further Continuous Professional Development in the Costs Profession

Experience

  • Legal experience advantageous.
  • Use of financial and case management software advantageous.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules and SRA Code of Conduct advantageous
  • Knowledge of costs law advantageous

Skills/Abilities

  • A drive for legal knowledge and development of legal skills

Communication

An excellent communicator, speaks clearly at all levels with confidence; effective negotiator; listens well; responds well to questions.

Writes clearly and effectively; designs effective communications media.

Business Acumen

Has an understanding about the needs of the business and the clients and be able to apply relevant costs regulations and procedures to the business objectives.

Flexible in attitude and approach to work, supporting the delivery of both individual and team demands together.

Excellent attention to detail.

Problem solving

Takes a sound practical and commercial approach to problem solving, judgements and decision making, ensuring the right people are included in this process.

Numeracy

Highly numerate and can present cost information in a clear and concise way

IT Skills

Can use Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint well.

Has a strong ability to learn/use financial and costs specialist IT systems.

Required travel

The role will require occasional travel to client's offices.
