The Construction and Engineering team has an excellent track record in advising clients on a wide range of construction, engineering and procurement issues, providing clients with definable value at every stage of the process.
We act for contractors, consultants, construction and development finance providers, developers, public authorities, specialist sub-contractors and home owners.
The team focuses on the following sectors and areas of work:
- energy, including energy from waste and renewables
- water infrastructure
- public procurement
- sustainable construction
- regeneration and development work
- construction insolvency
- quarrying and land resources
- information and communication technologies
- facilities management
We act for all parts of the supply chain, and we work in partnership with clients in order to understand their commercial and individual needs, and to deliver the right solutions for their business and projects. This includes identifying the key objectives, agreeing the appropriate strategy and managing that strategy so that, ultimately, those objectives are met.
We assist clients in framing procurement strategies and ensuring compliance with applicable procurement legislation. Our lawyers have advised on every major domestic and international standard form of construction and engineering contract. We are experienced in drafting and negotiating the documents required for both simple developments and complex PFI or FM projects, and in negotiating security documentation.
During the construction or engineering process, you may want to approach us with discrete enquiries or you may want an in-depth tailored risk assessment, and our team will respond with the required advice and assistance.
As soon as you take on a project, we can advise on the incorporation of appropriate dispute resolution processes in the contracts. During the course of the project, we can assist with measures that can be taken to avoid or at least minimise disputes arising, and to enable you to work towards achieving a successful delivery of the project.
We have considerable experience of dealing with and resolving construction, engineering and process plant disputes, including those involving negotiations, adjudications, litigation, arbitrations, mediations and other “alternative” dispute resolution processes.
Various funding options can be considered for dealing with construction and engineering matters, and the team’s COSTControl options can be reviewed in relation to the funding of the work involved in resolving disputes which are referred to litigation or arbitration.
