Champagne, sunshine, the gentle thud of metal on gravel and the Gallic ramblings of JP Auge on the tannoy ……yes, it has to be the Bath Boules.
Every year for the last 20 years, one weekend in June sees Queen Square in Bath filled to bursting with enthusiastic – and often talented – Boules players, their friends and families.
This year was no exception. And even though the sunshine was conspicuous by its absence on Saturday morning, the Square was still spilling over with Bathonian Boules players eager to start the tournament.
Veuve Clicquot sponsored the tournament this year naming it the “Veuve Clicquot Bath Boules” and adding a dash of glamour, champagne and Veuve yellow to the whole proceedings.
Thrings took on the role of Lead Sponsors, putting four teams into the mix and there were many other local businesses willing to add to the sponsorship, ensuring a successful weekend and a profit for the Bath Boules Charitable Trust.
As the Bath journalist, the late Miles Kington, once said, “You can't beat Bath, boules and a bottle of wine.”
