Growth in construction industry driven by housebuilding


The construction industry grew for the first time in six months during May, driven by an upturn in housebuilding, a new survey has revealed.

The Markit/CIPS UK Construction Purchasing Managers' Index reached its highest rating and its first positive value since October 2012.

"The construction sector seems to have turned a corner after six dismal months," said CIPS chief executive David Noble in response to data which revealed housebuilding had increased at its fastest rate for 26 months.
