Richard Pike


Richard joined Thrings in November 2015 having previously spent eight years in London both in private practice with Addleshaw Goddard and Shepherd and Wedderburn and in-house with the London Development Agency. He has also practised with one of Kenya’s largest commercial law firms and in Swindon with Clark Holt

Richard advises on all aspects of commercial property law and is experienced in dealing with acquisitions and disposals, development and option agreements, landlord and tenant matters and secured lending. His experience of working in both private practice and in-house means he is perfectly placed to understand and empathise with clients’ needs and requirements.

Highlights include:

  • Advising, and working with external lawyers, on the land assembly for the 2012 Olympic Park, including the transfer of the Park and other land, together with the LDA’s Olympic functions, to the Olympic Park Legacy Company;

  • Advising on the disposal of a large site in the Royal Docks, which was developed in 2012 into a sustainable energy exhibition centre and offices and which was the first site to be developed as part of the Royal Docks Green Enterprise District;

  • Advising, and working with internal clients, on the land aspects of the Emirates Air Line cross-Thames cable car;

  • Advising on disposals and developments of the LDA’s estate, and other associated regeneration projects, including providing advice on procurement issues, heads of terms, transaction structure and documentation;

  • Advising on the land aspects of a proposed new geothermal power plant within Mt Longonot National Park, Kenya including negotiating the documentation with American investors and London based project sponsors;

  • Advising an overseas client on the acquisition of a commercial site in West London for circa £28m, which is being redeveloped into luxury residential accommodation;

  • Advising substantial English property and development companies on all aspects of the general estate management of their portfolios, including landlord and tenant matters, and on the development of new mixed use developments;

  • Acting for banks and financial institutions in connection with secured property lending;

  • Advising, and working with internal clients, external lawyers and the European Investment Bank, on the property elements of establishing a £100m holding fund for European investment into sustainable investment in city areas.
