Steve is a solicitor-advocate and he joined Thrings in March 2007, having previously worked for firms such as Burges Salmon and Addleshaw Booth & Co.
Steve has more than 21 years’ experience of resolving construction and engineering disputes, including the use of litigation, adjudications, arbitrations and mediations.
Steve has acted for public and local authorities, insurers, developers, funders, insolvency practitioners, consultants, contractors and specialist sub-contractors, as well as home owners, with particular expertise in the energy and utility sectors. His work has included disputes relating to buildings, roads, sewage works, oil refineries, bridges, tunnels, gas mains, pipelines, prisons, military air bases and roller coasters.
Examples of Steve’s recent work have included disputes involving:
- works on a major London railway station project;
- a supplier’s works for a project at a UK military base
- sewage and water treatment works
- a care home
The leading legal directory Chambers UK 2012 reported clients as saying that Steve acts for a diverse client base and is considered to be “excellent at quickly getting on top of detailed matters” and is able to give “clear and focused advice”. The latest edition of Legal 500 notes that Steve is “a legal safety net”, providing “timely support and sound legal advice”.
Steve was a specialist practice consultant to the RIBA for many years and has provided training for construction consultants on courses organised by Bath University, the University of the West of England, Leeds Metropolitan University and the RIBA.
Steve is a committee member of the Adjudication Society (South West & South Wales branch) and he is a member of the Society of Construction Law.
