Farmers Weekly: can I claim insurance for storm damage to my property?

Written by Thrings | Apr 20, 2022 8:34:10 AM

A disagreement has arisen between an insurance company and a farmer after bad weather allegedly caused damage to the latter’s property.

Following severe storms in 2019 one of the farmer’s sheds collapsed, with a second shed left in a precarious state. The decision was taken to raze both properties to the ground and rebuild.

Now, a disagreement has surfaced between the farmer and loss adjusters appointed by the insurance company who believe the sheds had been neglected by the farmer - a suggestion he strongly refutes.

In this month’s Business Clinic, agricultural litigation partner Russell Reeves assesses the farmer’s position and discusses how the prospect of a successful claim could hinge on the wording of the contract drawn up between the two parties.
