Among those receiving recognition are partners from Thrings’ specialist agricultural team, Russell Reeves and Duncan Sigournay, and consultant Anita Symington. The team - the largest of any law firm in the UK - has been ranked in the top tier for the past five years. It counts National Farmers Union (NFU), Badminton Estate, and the Country Land and Business Association (CLA) amongst its high-profile clients.

Elsewhere, Alex Pinhey and Edward Jackman are recommended for their work in commercial property, while fellow partner Colin Stratton is endorsed for his ‘strong negotiation skills’ and expertise in the residential development and leisure sectors.

Warren Reid, head of commercial property at Thrings, and Michael Tatters are both acknowledged for their property litigation expertise, as are Eric Livingston and Steve McCombe in the field of construction. Alex Madden, head of planning at Thrings, is labelled ‘a highly competent practitioner’, with his team ‘always ready to go the extra mile’.

Mark Cullingford and ‘cool under fire’ Alastair Govier are praised for leading Thrings’ ‘outstanding’ commercial litigation practice, especially in financial services, IP and pension litigation. The team also includes insolvency and corporate recovery partner, Melissa George, as well as David Patterson and Ramona Derbyshire, acknowledged for their work in the defence, manufacturing and financial services sectors.

Adding to those making an impression in the area of corporate and commercial law are senior partner Jonathan Payne, and partners John DaviesJane Oakland, Alex Pyatt and Mike Tomlin, who 'makes the effort to clearly understand what the client is looking to achieve’.

Andy Braithwaite and Graeme Fearon are picked out for their work in IT, telecoms and intellectual property, while Kerrie Hunt, head of employment at Thrings, ‘knows employment law inside out’.

Also highlighted were head of private client, Fiona Kellow, together with James Myatt and Matthew Kellow for their family work, with Michael Young recommended for personal tax, trusts and probate.

Simon Holdsworth, managing partner of Thrings, said: “This year’s Legal 500 guide reinforces Thrings’ standing as a leading law firm with particular strengths in commercial and rural matters.

“Having our practice areas and solicitors acknowledged by the long-established and well-respected legal directory not only reinforces our position in the market, it encourages us as a firm, and as individuals, to continue to offer a top-notch service.
“It’s great to see our specialist agricultural team continue to be recognised for its excellence. It’s the largest in the country, moving from strength to strength in delivering holistic expert advice to our clients.”
