Michael joined Thrings in 1981 and today fronts our Tax and Trusts team. Focusing on Private Wealth, he guides clients through estate planning and structuring to achieve both tax efficiency and asset protection for the benefit of their families. In this role, he advises a broad range of clients, such as wealthy individuals, business owners, families, landowners and farmers. Highly experienced and understanding of his clients' need for security, privacy and protection, Michael gives families confidence about the future.
Michael has been a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) since 1995. He served as chairman for three years (2010 to 2012) and as chairman of the STEP Professional Standards Committee from 2013 to 2019. He has been instrumental in expanding Thrings' capital tax planning and trust administration practices, including a key private charitable trust practice.
Having qualified as a chartered certified accountant before specialising in capital tax planning, Michael has extensive Private Wealth knowledge. Much of his expertise lies in strategic and tax-efficient estate planning, inheritance tax and capital gains tax planning, wills and trusts. Working closely with his clients, Michael designs appropriate structures to hold assets, forms lawful trusts and writes sophisticated wills.
