Kerrie has a practice encompassing contentious and non-contentious employment advice, working closely with corporate clients at senior level, identifying and managing risk in their business. She advises on all day-to-day aspects of employment law, as well as providing more strategic advice for some of the firm’s regional and national clients. This includes dealing with Trade Union issues, collective consultation over re-organisation and restructuring, and changes to terms and conditions.
With a litigation background, Kerrie is a keen advocate, representing corporate clients in Employment Tribunals. She is noted for being ‘calm, even when under fire’ and ‘able to deal with complex issues’ (Legal 500 2010).
She also has particular expertise, working alongside the firm’s leading Agriculture team, in advising farmers and landed estate owners.
Recent highlights include:
- Successfully defending a claim for injunctive relief for alleged breach of covenants and misuse of confidential information at the interim stage, in Birmingham Mercantile Court.
- Advising a plc client on major programme of restructure and consolidation of its group businesses, involving several rounds of collective consultation on redundancy, closure of parts of the group and outsourcing and transfer of staff under TUPE.
- Tribunal wins include defending a plc client in a disability discrimination and constructive dismissal claim; defeating a challenge by a freelance contributor claiming to be an employee of a national daily sports publication; acting for a new business following its purchase of assets from the Administrator of an insolvent company, giving rise to complex claims under TUPE by a former employee.
