CLEAR GUIDANCE ON DIVERSITY MATTERS

Issues surrounding diversity and discrimination require clear and carefully-considered guidance. Working closely with you to understand your needs, concerns and objectives, we will make sure your employment documentation, culture and working practices are fully compliant.

We have worked with a range of leading businesses to provide guidance and topical training on all forms of discrimination. We can provide bespoke advice and suggest practical measures to tackle discrimination at all levels of your organisation and help you enrich the diversity of your workforce.

At all times, we strive to help you resolve issues without recourse to tribunal. But should your case progress, we have an excellent track record of defending our clients and helping them avoid any long-term financial or reputational damage.

Our Employment and Immigration Team has been involved in a number of claims and cases. Highlights include:

  • Advising a PLC client on a disability issue relating to reasonable adjustments, and pay and rest breaks
  • Representing a claimant in a disability discrimination claim, and achieving a settlement and apology for an employee with complex mental health issues
  • Defending a sexual harassment and disability discrimination claim. This case included an application to the tribunal to confirm the Court of Protection Deputy may act as a party in the proceedings, and a successful application to strike out the claimant’s claim in its entirety at a preliminary hearing
  • Successfully defending a race discrimination claim brought against employer with public profile and for whom, as a licensed operator of passenger vehicles, reputation and equality duties are key
  • Successfully defending an employer from a high-value race discrimination claim by its ex-HR director
  • Successfully defending an employer against whistle-blowing and discrimination claims by two employees

Our expertise in this area encompasses:

  • Tackling bullying and harassment in the workplace
  • Managing issues around gender, age and cultural diversity
  • Understanding disability and your obligations to make reasonable adjustments
  • Defending direct and indirect discrimination claims in tribunal
