What motivated you to become a lawyer?

From a young age I have had a strong sense of justice and the need for things to be fair. This follows through into commercial work too, in ensuring that I get the best outcome for each client, and that transactional documents strike a balance between the parties competing interests. I was motivated by a career that combined people skills and technical know-how.

Why do you specialise in landlord and tenant work?

I like seeing a transaction through from start to finish and being involved at every stage of the process with the client. It is rewarding to see a matter through to a successful conclusion be that opening a new shop, assisting with an office relocation, or restoring an investment building to full occupancy. The work involved appeals to my organised and meticulous nature.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

The people - be it colleagues, agents, clients, or their advisors. With commercial property work everyone is usually working towards a common goal. With a high volume of correspondence and communication over the course of a transaction, and then working on repeat instructions, I have built up a network of great working relationships over my years at Thrings.

If you weren’t a lawyer, what would you do?

Be Kirstie Allsop! My dream job would be to work as a high-end relocation agent, looking at lovely houses all day. I always have an eye on house prices in our area and have a passion for interiors.

What do you like to do outside of work?

With two young children there isn’t much time for hobbies (except theirs!). But, in the last year, I have discovered barre classes, and try to go at least twice a week. I am a class rep for my daughter’s school and enjoy being part of the PTFA and school community. I love true crime documentaries, property programmes, and my Kindle. My husband and I are passionate about food - cooking it, eating it, learning about it- and I love hosting and organising parties (for all ages!)

Name one thing that makes your life better.

My family…and food. Luckily my husband is a good cook, so it’s two for the price of one!
