Farmers Weekly Business Clinic: can we register land if deeds are mislaid?

Fifty years ago, a couple bought a section of farmland from a relative’s estate which had been in their family for more than a century.

A year after acquiring the land, they gifted it to their two children.

The couple has recently been notified that the solicitors who held the deeds have not only mislaid them but that the land has also never been legally registered.

In this month’s Business ClinicJosephine Taylor an associate in Thrings’ Agriculture team, explains what steps the couple need to take in order to legally register the land with the Land Registry.
