Robert joined Thrings in 2010 and heads up the Bristol Commercial Property team. He forms a key part of our Development of Land and Banking & Finance teams, bringing a valuable perspective to a broad range of matters.

His outstanding versatility as a commercial property specialist allows Robert to offer a holistic view on every matter. His specific strengths lie in landlord and tenant matters, secured lending, acquisitions and disposals and development projects.

Robert has worked with both regional and national developers, overseeing transactions at every stage from site acquisition through to disposals. He also has experience acting on behalf of both institutional and non-institutional lenders, making him a rounded, well-informed source of advice and support for any client seeking development finance.

Banking & Finance

Robert has extensive experience acting on property finance matters. He has advised lenders and borrowers on all elements of using property as security including due diligence, security documents and the perfection of security.

Robert's relevant experience includes:

  • acting for a PLC bank in connection with a multi-million-pound residential development finance revolving credit facility, ensuring perfection of security and compliance with the lending conditions on each instruction
  • advising a property investment company on a multi-million-pound refinancing of their national investment portfolio
  • advising an alternative lender on the acquisition of a holiday let portfolio by way of share acquisition, involving funding from a high-profile private bank
  • acting for a commercial developer in connection with the acquisition of a greenfield strategic commercial development site, including advice in respect of complex site servicing issues and an overage agreement
  • advising a residential developer on the acquisition and sub-sale of a development site, including ancillary development agreement
  • acting for a property investor on the acquisition of a regional shopping centre and in connection with connected lease and estate management work
  • acting for a property investment company in connection with the lease and estate management across their national portfolio of industrial and office developments
  • advising an investor client on the £2.1m acquisition of a long leasehold interest in retail units at a signature South West mixed-use building
