What motivated you to become a lawyer?

I used to manage pubs when I was in my 20s. It was good fun but I was young, a bit naïve and sadly fell victim to a couple of scams. I wanted to learn more about my legal rights and how the law can protect businesses and individuals alike - here I am almost 20 years later as a commercial lawyer!

Why do you specialise in commercial law?

I help clients draft and review commercial contracts, such as for the supply of goods and services, distribution, agency and franchise agreements and software contracts. I am an e-commerce specialist and assist clients with their websites, privacy policies and branding. My practice is really varied which is great.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Knowing that I’ve helped to protect my client’s business by putting better terms in place or negotiating a better deal is really satisfying. But branding is what gets me out of bed every day. I specialise in intellectual property with a particular expertise in trade marks. Whether that’s helping to protect someone’s brand or logo by applying to register it as a trademark, drafting or negotiating sponsorship deals or influencer agreements or licensing of rights. It certainly appeals to the creative side of me.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I am a bit of a foodie. I love going out to restaurants and trying new dishes. I also play netball socially. It is only for fun and fitness mostly as I’m only 5’1” and not breaking into the England squad any time soon!

Name one thing that makes your life better?

My dog. I have a Wetterhoun puppy who keeps me really busy. He is also a bit of a celebrity because he was part of the first litter of that breed to be born in the UK. There are only about 1,500 in the world and as a new Wetterhoun owner, I am working with other owners to try and create awareness of the breed and increase their numbers.
