The future of farming over the next century is the focus of debate at the 90th anniversary of the Oxford Farming Conference, with Thrings returning as co-sponsor of the event’s topical debate.
Running from 7-9 January, the conference celebrates its landmark year with the theme “Growing Resilience” which will highlight the sector’s ability to adapt to the ever-changing world, its historic legacy and the opportunities that lie ahead.
With more than a century of experience in the rural sector, Thrings is proud to continue its support for the conference as a sponsor for the renowned OFC debate and post-debate supper – alongside Savills, Pinion Global Network and FCN.
Inspired by 90 years of the OFC, this year’s conference debate, the cornerstone event on the agenda, will consider the motion: “This house believes that in the next 90 years farming will become a one day-a-week job.”
Proposed by Dr Elliott Grant, Visiting Fellow at Cambridge University’s Institute for Manufacturing, and Kate Russell, Managing Director at Tellus Natural Capital, the motion will be opposed by Sue Pritchard, Chief Executive of the Food, Farming and Countryside Commission, and Tracey Roan, Dairy Industry Consultant at Owen Farm Services.
Duncan Sigournay, Head of Agriculture at Thrings, said: “It is fantastic to continue our support for the Oxford Farming Conference as it celebrates this milestone and once again bringing together the best minds in the sector to consider its future direction.
“The motion this year, considering the long-term future of farming, is particularly poignant with the challenges farmers face in securing their businesses’ future and ensuring the continued success for the next generation. I am sure we will be in for another fascinating debate as the house seeks to predict where farming will be in the 22nd century!”
