Two corporate deals featuring Thrings have been shortlisted at the inaugural South West Rainmaker Awards.
Organised by The Business Desk, the awards will bring together the region’s corporate finance community to showcase the best deals from the past year and champion those setting the pace in the sector.
The firm is nominated twice in Medium Deal of the Year, recognising the innovative and interesting deals valued between £10million and £50million.
Chipside
The first nomination comes for the acquisition of Chipside by Synova-backed Unity5 – alongside EY, Momentum Corporate Finance, Osborne Clarke, Pearson May and PwC – in a deal already recognised with success at the 2025 South West Insider Dealmakers Awards.
A longtime client of the firm, Chipside was founded more than 20 years ago with the support of the firm’s Head of Corporate John Davies – then a newly qualified solicitor – with the relationship having spanned the entire life cycle of the business as John once again acted for the company in its sale.
Thrings’ Corporate team, which also including Senior Partner Jonathan Payne, Associate Conor Melvin and Solicitor Shana McBean, represented Chipside’s six founding shareholders in all legal aspects of the sale.
This included the curation of dozens of interested party NDAs, the negotiation of the share purchase agreement, delivering on the personal terms for all parties involved and carrying out a thorough vendor due diligence exercise through the creation of a detailed data room.
Hercules
The second nomination relates to the acquisition of electrical transmission lines construction provider Advantage NRG by Hercules – alongside Cavendish, Hazlewoods, Hill Dickinson, RWK Goodman, Shoosmiths and SP Angel Corporate Finance.
Acting on behalf of manufacturing, packaging, storage, and distribution specialists Wasdell Group who provided multimillion-pound financing for the Hercules’ acquisition, Thrings’ Banking and Finance team, led by Partner Mike Tomlin and supported by John Davies, Jonathan Payne and Associate Matt Cornforth.
The team dealt with all aspects on the lending of finance for the acquisition, including facilities, security and intercreditor arrangements with the other lenders.
John Davies, Thrings Head of Corporate, said: “It is fantastic to see these deals getting the recognition they deserve. Both involved a great deal of work and due diligence from all parties involved to ensure their success while meeting every aspect of the clients’ expectations. We look forward to the outcome of these inaugural awards so best of luck to everyone shortlisted"!
The awards are set to take place at the Bristol Harbour Hotel on November 19.
