Clean Energy and Environment Lawyers

Thrings’ Clean Energy and Environment Team advises commercial developers, farmers and landowners on the legal aspects of clean energy, environment and biodiversity

We provide specialist advice and legal solutions for a wide range of energy projects. We combine our legal experience across our real estate, construction, planning, corporate, banking and agriculture teams to achieve successful outcomes for our clients.

Our lawyers work on pure energy projects, such as on-shore wind or solar, and increasingly for commercial clients with projects where renewable obligations are required as an integral part of a wider development project. We act for commercial developers, housebuilders, renewable energy developers, lenders nationally to provide pragmatic and cost sensitive solutions.

Our Agriculture team has seen the need for farmers and landowners to create new revenue streams through diversification, the pressures on energy supply and cost and the imperative to reduce the environmental impacts of energy production mean that renewable electricity generation projects present a significant opportunity for landowners and developers alike.

Biodiversity net gain (BNG) credits schemes, rewilding and other carbon offset measures are also an increasingly common way for developers to meet their legal obligations to mitigate the effects of nitrates and phosphates displaced through development, and for landowners to diversify.

Clean and renewable energy structures and technologies are rapidly evolving areas, with contractual, regulatory and other legal requirements necessitating the need for clear, focused and pragmatic advice from specialist lawyers. Our partner-led and cross-office approach supports clients through their project from inception to completion.

More information for developers is available on Development of Land page. If you are a farmer or a landowner, information can be found on our Renewable energy agriculture page.
